Excellent stay, outstanding staff, tasty food, great children’s facilities but no heated pools
+ We were welcomed warmly on arrival and attended to quickly, and at check-in a staff member offered lunch for everyone free of charge, which was an excellent start. The hotel is pretty and one of the better ones in the area. Our two-bedroom suite was big enough for the whole family, with roomy bedrooms and walk-in showers, and housekeeping once left a set of balloons for the kids, which they loved. The food was five-star: breakfast had stations for every taste, with chefs making omelettes, eggs, pancakes and waffles, plus fruit, breads, fresh pomegranate juice, smoothies and Tunisian teas. Lunch and dinner offered fresh fish, meat, pizza, pasta and Tunisian dishes, and the pastry selection was so big we couldn’t try it all. The children’s dining area with low tables and small chairs was wonderful for our toddlers. The kids’ club and the 8pm kids’ disco were a big hit, and the young staff were welcoming and kept the children engaged. The kids’ pool has a nice selection of slides, the beach is clean and beautiful with the sand cleaned daily, and we appreciated the security at the gate, where taxis are logged and cars and bags are checked. My massages (Anti-Stress and Californie) were good. Above all, the staff were exceptional. My mother’s prescription glasses went missing, and the head of security, Hamza, reviewed the CCTV footage and spent over three hours retracing her steps until he found them. We are deeply grateful.
− The biggest disappointment was the pools. The outdoor pools, including the kids’ pool, are unheated and very cold, and the indoor pool is warmer but still not warm enough. My older child swam only a couple of times and my younger child refused to go back in after her first dip. In our personal impression, the sea was actually warmer than the pools. Heating at least the kids’ pool is essential for families. A second major minus was the plastic table mats in the dining areas, especially the children’s area: they were sticky and unpleasant even after being wiped, and the cloths didn’t look washed or used with any cleaning solution. In the suite, I had requested a baby cot when booking but it wasn’t there on arrival, the bedroom wardrobe lights wouldn’t switch off until my husband wedged coins under the wardrobe sliding doors, and the shower temperature kept swinging between cold and hot, much worse in the second bedroom. Small towels were removed during cleaning and only returned before dinner, so we had none after the beach or pool. At the beach, cigarette butts were left in the ashtray on the table the next day, and a vendor kept calling out “Cigarettes” to everyone passing. In the spa, my feet were often left uncovered during massages and I felt cold, and my therapist coughed a lot. The hammam, scrub and massage package was a real letdown: the hammam was more like a steam sauna, and the scrub in a separate wet room felt like a factory line, nothing like a traditional hammam, so I wouldn’t recommend it. Finally, while the gate checks are good, guests arriving on foot were never asked to show their bags, but I wouldn’t have minded a check every time we came back.
