Beware: Misleading inclusions: Afternoon tea is only once per stay (not daily) & only 1 room key

+ The frontline staff and housekeeping team were genuinely lovely, polite, and kept our room spotless throughout our 9-night stay. The view from our room was amazing. And the room itself was a really good size. The breakfast buffet was fantastic—plentiful, excellent selection and great quality, and the egg and pho station chef was excellent.

− Management enforces rigid, undisclosed policies, and the property is starting to show its age: Misleading Afternoon Tea: We booked the Executive Room with Afternoon Tea, assuming it was included daily for our 9-night stay. After day one, we were told it is only a one-off perk for the entire booking, regardless of stay length. Nowhere in the booking fine print was this stated. Ironically had I booked nine individual nights of the same room for the same price I would have got nine individual afternoon teas. Just mind-blowingly ridiculous. Only 1 room key allowed: Despite two adults staying for 9 nights, management strictly refused a second key card. Even offering a cash deposit of over 3,000,000 VND was rejected, claiming two cards to be given to a husband and wife posed a "security threat to the hotel" and claiming that it's hotel policy. But nowhere on their website or on booking.com does it state this anywhere. Beach towels: Inconsistent availability early in the morning and frequent shortages midday. Maintenance & overall value: The Balcona is starting to feel tired and a bit run-down. We went over to the rooftop pool next door (at TMS Hotel) for evening cocktails—their happy hour was much better value, and their lobby and lifts appeared far better maintained. Despite how hard the wonderful and friendly frontline staff work to keep guests happy, the inflexible policies and declining upkeep mean we would book next door instead next time. I could actually see that the staff themselves seemed frustrated at the policies they had to maintain. Booking.com did attempt to advocate on our behalf by raising both the single key policy and the misleading afternoon tea inclusion with the hotel owner, but they unfortunately came back stating the owner refused to budge and that there was nothing further they could do.

Perfect for a few family days at the beach

+ We loved the location, right across from the beach and near to many lovely cafes and restaurants. We had two connecting rooms, which were very spacious, clean and perfect for us. The beds were huge and very comfortable. The partial sea view was amazing. Breakfast buffet was just ok, but lots of choice and freshly cooked eggs to your liking was a great touch. We also enjoyed a complimentary afternoon tea up by the pool, which was delicious. Our kids loved the playroom, which also had lovely views. The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful when we wanted to organise drivers etc.

− Just some minor feedback from us... We had previously communicated with the hotel to organise early check-in and a cot, however when we arrived we were told both of these things weren't available. Once we had shown the staff the messages showing confirmation of these things, they gladly obliged. Our oldest is a confident swimmer, but kids under 1.4m weren't allowed to use the main pool, even in the arms of an adult. The shallow pool was perfect for them to splash about, but it would have been nice for us all to spend time in the main infinity pool. There was also never enough beach or pool towels available, which was a bit frustrating with 2 young kids. Next time we would just bring our own.
