  1. Located in central Greece near the town of Kalambaka, Meteora, meaning suspended in the air. This geological rock formation took this shape about 60 millions of years ago in the Paleogene period ! A breathtaking landscape of columns of rock accommodate a complex of orthodox monasteries perched on top of the hills, six of which still function today. They were once only accessible using ladders tied together or large nets but nowadays they are accessible by hundreds of staircases and pathways and have many visitors all year round. The place was characterised by UNESCO as a cultural heritage monument of the world !!!
